Marjan sold her her advertising business in Amsterdam, arrived in 2001 for a (short) holiday in Bali, on the way to Byron Bay in Australia. But she never ended up there. “You could say that after all these years I am still in transit, because I never left Bali”.
She learned to surf and built her “beachfront villa with palm trees” (nr 1. on her bucket list before her 40th). But it was her gardener and his nephew Wayan who brought her to this village in the “heart of Bali”. She found her balance in life and love for Wayan, the farmers, their families and “The luxury of simple life”.
“I am not a Farmer, but ‘Google’ educated me together with many (Western) students, guests and of course the farmers.”
“Every day I am aware how fortunate I am that I grew up in Amsterdam without sex-discrimination and maximal study opportunities.”
“Living among the villagers educated me about living in trust with nature, fresh healthy food and how to find balance in your life.”
“This was lacking my education in Amsterdam!”
Together with the villagers Marjan founded www.theorganicvillagebali.org to improve education for the villagers and farmers.
Wayan and Marjan started The Organic Farm Bali in 2009. But Wayan missed the ocean and his daily surf too much, so he created a new balance: The Farm & Surf Tour. The balance between the nature of the Ocean and the Mountains is very important for Balinese.
Always smiling and happy, Manager & Guide Du is full of energy, no problem that can’t be solved! Du didn’t speak one word of English, and didn’t know anything about our “Western” Organics when he started working at The Farm. Try him now?!
Ibu Wayan loves cooking (a good chef is never skinny right?), creates the best homemade dishes and desserts and is eager to learn from you too! Even after all those years she will tell you with a big smile “I dunno English, but I can cook”.
Effy, always sweet and confused if you talk too fast in English. But that is ok, she will charm you with her big smile and hospitality anyway.
We are proud to have Ayu join our team. A young woman from our village, she recently completed hospitality studies in Ubud. She is a multi-talented guide, cook, waitress, and farmer. She's also a great singer!
Depending on the harvest or planting season, frelance farmers and villagers are available and proud to share their love for this area.
The kids and all Villagers, who are just their happy selves! You will probably meet them all!
The 3 rescued Bali beach doggies Poleng, Bear & Milu, who are all nurtured and vaccinated and who love your hugs, are always around to happily welcome you too!
